The Workshop on
Quantum Groups and Poisson Boundaries

School of Mathematics, IPM

June 7-9, 2014
(Khordad 17-19, 1393)
 Tehran, Iran

Theme:

In this workshop, we introduce locally compact quantum groups (von Neumann algebra setting) and review basic results on Poisson boundaries. In the classical case, the space of harmonic functions on a measure space X is isomorphic (via the Poisson transformation) to the space of essentially bounded measurable functions on the Poisson boundary of the Markov chain on X. The quantum case is related to noncommutative random walks (introduced by Izumi for discrete quantum groups).
