The problem of determining spherical classes in homology of spaces seems to be an elementary problem that one can stated once the Hurewicz map is defined. However, in some cases of interest such as the infinite loop space associated to the sphere spectrum, the answer still is unknown. In this talk, I will start with an introduction to spherical classes and their basic properties, and then state some recent developments in this direction which are obtained by geometric methods.
