The dynamical study of homeomorphisms of the circle is more than a century old; for a single homeomorphism Poincare found a beautiful invariant - the rotation number. In this talk we address the following fundamental question: if we know the rotation numbers of two homeomorphisms of the circle, what can we say about the rotation number of their product?
