Foreman's maximality principle says that any non-trivial forcing notion either adds a new real or collapses a cardinal. In 1984, Foreman-Magidor-Shelah asked if this principle is consistent. In this talk, we discuss some consequences of Foreman's maximality principle, and prove the consistency of some of its variants. The talk is based on joint works with Hayut and Shelah.
